Molnau endorses Emmer's candidacy for Minnesota governor
Pioneer Press
01/25/2010
Lt. Gov. Carol Molnau on Monday endorsed state Rep. Tom Emmer for governor, saying he's a strong leader who knows that "less government is better than more."
"If I didn't think there was a strong candidate in this race, I'd be there," Molnau said at a Capitol news conference.
Emmer, one of seven candidates seeking the Republican nomination for governor, said Molnau's endorsement shows his campaign is gaining momentum. He said he would seek her advice since she has been part of two successful statewide campaigns.
Molnau said she had not discussed her endorsement of Emmer with Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who has said he plans to remain neutral in the race to succeed him.
She and Pawlenty are the only statewide elected Republican office holders in Minnesota.
Meanwhile, Rep. Marty Seifert announced that Republican National Committeewoman Evie Axdahl, of Maplewood, has joined his gubernatorial campaign's leadership team.

Rep. Karla Bigham is retiring and 2010 is the year of high turnover at the Minnesota Legislature
By Rach Eggert, Rach's Political Report
Rep. Karla Bigham, who is a Democrat from Cottage Grove is not seeking re-election this year. She wanted to finish law school and be a lawyer. She is planning on taking LSAT sometimes in February.
Look like 2010 is the year of high turnover at the Minnesota State Legislature. Are there anyone that is going to retire? Any readers can submit list of names of legislators who are not seeking re-election so I can keep updated list of legislators who are retiring.

Note from Rach
I hope that everyone had great 2009 and is looking forward to new decade. For past few months I have been busy with new addition in my family (no, I don‘t have any kids), job hunting/interview and spend more time with my family before 2010 Legislative Session and busy political season starts.
During 2010 Minnesota Legislative Session at Minnesota State Capitol, I will be Citizen Lobbyist again and will cover Minnesota Politics for my blog when I am not lobbying.
I always have interest in Minnesota Politics for many years and I think it would be great opportunity for me to do both lobbying and being a citizen journalist at place I consider as my home and where people who are one big happy family to me for years.
Sometimes I may cover politics outside of Minnesota such as Wisconsin State Legislature even other elected officials as well. Some other subject outside of politics may appear on my blog as well.
If you have any comments or opinions, please feel free to e-mail me at senatoreggert@yahoo.com anytime. You also can submit your political stories or events that you would like to be posted on my blog, you could contact me as well.

Murphy will not seek re-election
Steve Murphy, an 18-year member of the Minnesota Senate, announced Friday that he will not seek re-election.
By: Mike Longaecker, The Republican Eagle
Steve Murphy, an 18-year member of the Minnesota Senate, announced Friday that he will not seek re-election.
"I just want to spend more time with my family and pursue some other interests," the Red Wing Democrat said in an interview with the R-E. "The Legislature always needs a healthy infusion of fresh blood."
Murphy's District 28 seat has drawn the interest of Red Wing Mayor John Howe, who announced last week he will seek the GOP endorsement.
No other candidates have stepped forward so far in the race.
Murphy said he hopes that the seat stays in Democratic control. But "unless the DFL poses a strong candidate," he would encourage Republican Rep. Tim Kelly to run for the seat.
"If Tim Kelly would run, Tim Kelly would win," Murphy said of the first-term lawmaker who defeated incumbent Democrat Sandy Wollschlager in 2008. "He has the right attitude and the right disposition to be a good senator."
