MINNEAPOLIS -- Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak is traveling to China to promote the city as a travel destination and to promote Minneapolis companies doing business in the country.
Rybak is leaving Sunday and will return on May 28. He is addressing an international economic development forum in Beijing where he will be the only U.S. mayor and one of only a few Americans speaking.
Rybak will also travel to the cities of Shanghai and Harbin, and will meet with a variety of government, business, technology and academic leaders.
The mayor says it's important to promote Minneapolis as a global city for business and tourism, especially given that China's travelers are the world's fastest growing travel market.
